San Diego Asian Film Festival

San Diego Asian Film Festival is the premiere event of the San Diego Asian Film Foundation (SDAFF), a nonprofit organization dedicated to upholding and sharing the diverse legacy of Asian Pacific Islanders through the media arts. School is out and two cousins dream of spending their vacation at a fishpond. To get there, they decide to buy a used bicycle. Working hard at odd jobs, they earn enough to buy it, only to give the money away to someone who needs the money more. Fortunately, the bicycle’s owner gives them another chance—but at a higher price. They have to scheme  to earn this money.  In the end, a discarded 40 year-old bicycle connects the past to the present, becoming a catalyst for healing old wounds and reviving a love affair long left for dead...

Big-budget look, family orientation mark Gulong as mold-breaking indie

GULONG"Sockie Fernandez, co-producer and director of the film made sure that while Gulong is an independent film, the production value is not sacrificed and can actually match big studio standards. [Co-producer Butch Jimenez (Jose Rizal)] and Sockie assembled an award-winning production team for the film who are both their friends, but more importantly believed in the message of the movie. The screenplay was written by Palanca awardee, Jeanne Lim, while the cinematographer is Lee Meily. Sound design and engineering was handled by Mike Idioma while the score was crafted by Dan and Geri Gil.  Butch was also able to convince his longtime friend, Gary Valenciano to play a role in the movie, while another friend, Christian Bautista sang its theme song..."
