Cinemalaya Film Fest "right on the money in giving its highest honors to Tulad Ng Dati"
by Gibbs Cadiz, PHILIPPINE DAILY INQUIRER ONLINE

Jett Pangan and JB Leonor in TULAD NG DATI"... Best Feature Film in the recently concluded [Cinemalaya Film Festival] went to Mike Sandejas’ Tulad ng Dati, a film that featured for its central effect a character suffering from amnesia. How clichéd could you get?  Except that Tulad ng Dati is anything but.

"Sandejas’ sophisticated, remarkably self-assured first feature is a playful but profound riff on the life and times of the The Dawn, the band responsible for operatic rock anthems like "Enveloped Ideas" and "Iisang Bangka Tayo."  The Dawn has had its moment in the fickle sun, and Tulad ng Dati finds it scrounging around in some third-rate dive, its pioneering act now largely forgotten.

"... its ultimate themes—celebrity, maturity, growing old and dying, the wages of fame, friendships that defy dimensions—make it a richly gratifying cinematic experience.  That this movie restores The Dawn to its rightful place in the local music pantheon is a welcome bonus."
